Businesses in London Hampered by Slow Broadband

broadband connection

Businesses in London are being left in the slow lane when it comes to broadband speeds, claimed a London mayoral hopeful during a visit to Chiswick .

Zac Goldsmith said London was 26th out 33 major European capitals and the slow speeds are costing firms here.

“Despite all the success in growing our transport network we’re still miles behind when it comes to digital connectivity,” he said .

“It takes three times longer to download stuff here on average than it does in Paris. We need fast broadband to become the fourth utility for the sake of businesses and public users.”

Mr Goldsmith was speaking during a break in his campaign trail for a cappuccino after joining a breakfast meeting of the Chiswick Business Forum on Friday (February 12).

As well as the need for faster broadband across the capital, he said the major concerns for local businesses included the lack of affordable housing needed for workers, a lack of office space and a skills shortage among potential employees.

In golf, with Rory McIlroy, we have the emerging world golf superstar. In women’s rugby, England are the newly crowned world champions. In women’s football, the home nations are building successful teams. In cycling, British men and women are leading contenders. The London-Surrey Classic was won by a Briton against stiff overseas competition.
